SARASOTA, Fla. | Florida Memorial University fell to Bethel (Ind). 3-0 (25-14, 25-7, 25-15) and No. 24 Mobile 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-13) on the final day of the NCF Invitational. Despite the loss, the Lions once again showed fight and matched up with their opponents in key categories, such as tying Bethel in blocks, 5-5.
In game one, it was junior
Desiree Donald who led the team in kills with six, while teammates
Carolina Alonso,
L'fe Roberts, and
Genesis Casimiro each had one ace apiece. Sophomore
Tatiana Maddox led the team in aces with three, while Alonso led in assists with 10. On defense, freshman
Heaven Crouse led the way with 10 digs, with Roberts slotting behind with seven.
In game two, Donald once again led the way with six kills, while teammates
Serena Edwards andÂ
Abril Jaramillo Diaz each had one ace apiece. Roberts and
Joemyrah Clendinen had one block apiece.
In assists, sophomore
Leila Betancourt excelled with 17 assists in the game, opening the path for the Lions to score. On defense,
Drew Lester ended the game with nine digs, with Betancourt just behind with eight.
The losses drop FMU to 0-4 on the season.
The Lions return to action Saturday, August 22, for the home opener against South Florida Bible. First serve is slated for 10 a.m. at the FMU Wellness Center. Purchase tickets to the home opener using
