MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University has named Anthony Anderson Jr as co-associate head men's basketball coach. Anderson brings more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience at the NCAA Division I, junior college and NAIA levels. Widely respected for his recruiting ability, player development and relationship-building, Anderson has helped develop numerous all-conference performers while contributing to multiple postseason teams throughout his career.

"What makes Florida Memorial so special is, it ties in everything together," said Anderson. "From family to loyalty to relationships. Not just the walls in the building, but everybody that's around the campus. From the president to the janitor. I think this place can be very special, and the growth we're trying to make, and the growth we're going as a program. I'm happy to be here with Coach Anthony Anderson Sr. as well as the whole staff that we have coming in, because what makes this place so special to me is the family piece and I beleive that family is what makes Florida Memorial special."

"Coach Anthony Jr. comes with a wealth of experience he brings from the Division I level," said head coach Anthony Anderson Sr. "He's coached from junior college all the way up the ladder. I like to call it a wide range from junior college ball to the ACC. I couldn't ask for a better hire, I couldn't ask for a better person, plus he's a family man. I'm excited and I'm looking forward to a very special season."
 

Prior to joining FMU, Anderson served as an assistant coach at the University of Houston under head coach Matthew Mitchell. Before Houston, he spent three seasons at SMU, where he helped guide the Mustangs to a WNIT appearance and coached multiple All-American Athletic Conference honorees. During the 2023-24 season, SMU ranked among the AAC leaders in field goal percentage, assists and assist-to-turnover ratio while developing All-AAC Second Team selection Tiara Young. In his first season with the Mustangs, SMU earned its third consecutive WNIT appearance while ranking among the conference leaders in scoring defense.

Before SMU, Anderson spent three seasons at UTEP, helping the Miners post a 31-12 home record while developing multiple All-Conference USA performers and contributing to a second-place conference finish in 2020-21. He also served as recruiting coordinator at Sam Houston and spent five seasons at UTRGV, where the Vaqueros recorded three consecutive 19-win seasons and made three postseason appearances. Earlier coaching stops included Lamar State College-Port Arthur and Paul Quinn College.

Known as one of the region's top recruiters and player development coaches, Anderson has built a reputation for mentoring student-athletes both on and off the court while helping establish winning cultures. At Florida Memorial, he will assist in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, player development, scouting, game preparation and program administration.

Anderson earned his bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies from Florida International University in 2011 and a master's degree in Sports Coaching from the United States Sports Academy in 2013.
