MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University had its most dominant win this decade, defeating Florida Polytechnic 9-0 at Dr. Lester Brown Park, the most goals scored in the
Marc Lue Young Era. The Lions were lights out on both sides of the ball, scoring nine goals and not allowing a single shot from the Phoenix all day long.
FMU set the tone in the fifth minute, when senior
Jasmine Sawyers scored her first goal of the season to take the lead. In the 16th minute, defender
Daniela Canizales scored the team's second goal of the day, off a corner kick from
Emily Campos. Less than a minute later, junior
Javine McKnight found the back of the net to make it a hat trick of FMU goals in less than 16 minutes.
In the 30th minute, freshmanÂ
Alaira Handy scored the team's fourth goal of the match, before McKnight scored her second goal of the match in the 32nd minute. The match was delayed due to weather, causing the first half to end prematurely, and the Lions kicked off the second half with a 5-0 lead.
Handy kicked off the second half with her second goal of the day in the 49th minute. She made it back-to-back goals for the Lions in the 72nd minute, making it a hat trick of goals for the freshman. McKnight's career day culminated in the 78th minute, when she scored her third goal of the day, making it two Lions with three goals on the day. The Lions ended the day with Handy's fourth goal of the match in the 83rd minute, to complete the Lions' domination over the Phoenix.

The win is the first of the season for FMU, moving them to 1-2 on the season.
FMU returns to action Friday, September 4, when they'll host Florida National. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. at Dr. Lester Brown Park.
