Florida Memorial University Names Pope Wide Receivers Coach

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University is proud to announce the hiring of Earl Pope as wide receivers coach. A native to Miami, Fla., Pope brings collegiate playing experience, recruiting expertise and a growing background in offensive development to the Lions coaching staff under head coach Michael Jones.

"Coming back home for this opportunity means more than just starting a new job," said Pope. "I'm incredibly excited to join a staff with coaches who played such an important role in my development when I was in high school. To now have the opportunity to learn from them, work alongside them, and give back to the community that helped shape me is truly special. I couldn't be more excited for this next chapter and this full-circle opportunity."

Jones talked about his excitement adding Pope to his coaching staff and why this hire is very special to him.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Earl Pope to our Florida Memorial University football staff as our new wide receiver's coach," said Jones. This hire is especially meaningful to me because it truly comes full circle. I had the opportunity to coach Earl during his high school career at Miami Carol City Senior High School, where he stood out as a leader in the locker room, a high-character young man, and an outstanding student. When the opportunity arose to add a coach to our staff, Earl was someone I immediately wanted to bring into our program because he embodies the qualities we value at Florida Memorial University. He is a proven leader, a tireless worker, and a great mentor for young men. I am confident he will be a tremendous asset to our staff and will have a significant impact on the development of our student-athletes, helping them become the best versions of themselves both on and off the football field. Earl's experience as a successful player, combined with his passion for coaching wide receivers, makes him an outstanding addition to our program, and we are excited about the future with him on our staff."

Pope served as a graduate assistant football coach at Wittenberg University, where he worked with the wide receivers and assists with practice planning, player development, opponent film breakdown and weekly game preparation. His experience extends beyond position coaching. During the 2025 season, Pope served as Interim Offensive Coordinator for three games, taking on responsibilities that included offensive game planning, play calling and making in-game adjustments. The opportunity provided valuable experience in leading an offense and managing game-day decisions.

Pope also brings experience in athletic operations and the game-day environment. Since May 2026, he has worked as a Video Board Operator with Champion City Half Trax, managing stadium graphics, sponsor content and in-game presentations while coordinating with game-day staff to enhance the fan experience.

A former collegiate student-athlete, Pope earned his bachelor's degree in Sport Management from Wittenberg University in 2024 and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Sport Administration. His background combines coaching, recruiting, player development, film study, leadership and game-day operations.

With experience developing wide receivers, evaluating talent and contributing to offensive game planning, Pope adds another layer of collegiate football experience as he continues to build his coaching career.
