MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial University seems to be peaking at the right time – winning 9 of its past 10 games – and hopes to keep that positive momentum rolling as it hosts Ave Maria University for a non-conference single game Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Harry T. Moore Field.

Though the teams are Sun Conference constituents, midweek single games don't count towards the teams' conference records.

About The Lions (21-16)
  • FMU enters the week having taken its first-ever series win over rival St. Thomas University.
  • The Lions took two games from No. 7 STU, including a 13-6 win this past Friday.
  • Freshman pitcher Isaias Espiritusantos put on a dominant performance in Friday's game, striking out 10 batters while allowing just one hit in five innings – earning him Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.
  • Florida Memorial currently sits in the fifth seed in the SUN standings.
  • Senior outfielder Rohandry Javier leads the team in multiple offensive categories – including batting average (.383), walks drawn (24), runs scored (40), and stolen bases (28). He also shares the lead for multi-hit games (13) and is currently on a 33-game reached-base streak.

Scouting Ave Maria (26-19-1)
  • The Gyrenes are winners of their past five games.
  • Ave Maria's recent win streak comes on the heels of a five-game losing streak.
  • AMU took the weekend series over Florida Memorial earlier this season, winning the first and third games on its home field.
  • Freshman outfielder Jose Gonzalez is among the conference leaders in multiple categories – ranking in the top three in hits, doubles, and RBI.
  • Ave Maria has scored 10 or more runs in seven of its past 10 games.

Series History
  • Florida Memorial trails the all-time series against the Gyrenes 35-19.
  • The Lions are 4-3 in the past seven meetings played at Harry T. Moore Field.

Keys To Victory
  • Avoid offensive lulls – FMU has routinely been able to produce runs in the first three innings of games this season but in losses – specifically against the Gyrenes this year – they must produce runs throughout, capitalizing on their opportunities.
