MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University defeated Warner 2-1 in a thrilling match at Dr. Lester Brown Park, culminating in a last-second goal from senior
Lumturie Berushi to put FMU over the top. In one of the most thrilling moments of the 2026 season, the Lions continue their winning ways, winning seven of their last 10 matches.
The Lions got on the board early, when senior
Laura Douet scored her first goal of the season in the eighth minute, with assistance from sophomore
Jennifer Canarutto. The Royals answered with a goal themselves in the 18th minute to tie the match 1-1. Both teams exchanged shots before and after the half, but couldn't find the back of the net.Â
With one minute to go, the Lions put the pressure on the Royals defense, with two corner kicks, one from senior
Emily Campos, and another from Douet, as they looked to turn the tie into a victory. With nine seconds on the clock, Berushi split the Royals defense and found the hole in the 90th minute for the match-sealing goal.
Goalkeeper
Isabelle Mapanao started the first half, allowing one goal with four saves. Senior
Isabella Rueda started the second half, recording a clean sheet with a pair of saves.
The win advances FMU to 7-4-1 on the year and 2-1 in conference play.
The Lions return to action Wednesday, October 14, for senior day against Webber. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Dr. Lester Brown Park.
