FMU's Head Softball Coach Nunez to be inducted into Hall of Fame

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. | Florida Memorial University head softball coach, Miguel "Bookie" Nunez, was inducted into the St. Thomas University Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the 2026 class. Bookie was enshrined in the Hall of Fame as part of the 1996 STU baseball team.

"I am so grateful for this honor," said Bookie. "Baseball has been a huge part of my life since I was a child. I would have never gone of this journey if it weren't for God, my parents who made the tough decision to leave Cuba, and my wife and kids who supported my passion even when it meant time away from them."

Bookie's journey to the Hall began in 1991, when he served as the assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator until 1997, when he took over the softball program as the head coach. He led the team to 29 wins that season, as well as a playoff appearance. In 2005, Bookie returned to the Bobcats as assistant baseball coach/recruiting coordinator, where he stayed until 2010.

In 1996 Bookie was a part of the Bobcats' baseball team, where they were the first team in STU history to reach the NAIA National Championship.

Bookie graduated from STU with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1997.

Bookie will enter his second season as FMU's head softball coach in the upcoming 2027 Softball Season. He is the third head coach in program history and has his eyes set on earning the team their first SUN Conference championship.
